Jhandewalan Temple is one of the oldest Hindu temples near Karol Bagh, located on Jhandewala in Delhi. It is dedicated to the goddess Aadi shakti and Vaishno Devi.
This area was named as Jhandewalan during the 18th century due to the presence of a large prayer flags.
Jhandewalan Temple was built by a famous cloth merchant ‘Badri Das’ during 18th century. The idol of jhandewali math and a stone lingam with carvings of naga were found by Badri Das during his walk in the area and digging near a waterfall.
The original statue was consecrated in the cavern basement which is known as “Maa Gufa Wali”. A new replica of the idol was installed on ground floor. Which is known as “Maa Jhandewali”. There are also the temples of Shiva and Goddess kali within the temple compound. People worship at the lower level of the temple where the original idol statues were installed. The upper level of the temple has the idol of Mata Jhandewali, Maa Saraswati, Maa Kali along with other deities.
Navratri Festival is celebrated with great devotion twice a year at the temple.
Jhandewali’s mata aarti and puja is performed four times a day.
