It is the most prominent temple of Lord Vishnu. Now we come to the history of this magnificent temple. It is previously known as the temple of Jagannath Rai. Jagannath Rai is one of the 1000 names of lord Vishnu. Jagdish temple is very near to the city palace of Udaipur and can be seen just 150 meters away from the city palace’s Bara pol.
Maharana Jagat Singh built the temple in 1651. He spent approximately 1.5 million rupees at that time which was a big amount. The temple was also renovated from time to time. The temple has three stories of hand-carved stone, 79 feet tall with a steeple. God Vishnu is carved out of a single black stone.
There are also four smaller shrines of Lord Ganesh, Surya, Shiva, and Goddess Shakti.
It is a large Hindu temple that is open on all days from 4:15 am to 1:00 pm and then from 5:15 pm to 8:00 pm. Mangla Aarti starts at 4:30 am and Sandhya Aarti at 6:30 pm.
There is no entry fee to visit the temple. You have to climb 32 steps to seek the blessing of Lord Vishnu.
This temple is a sacred place of India but also shows the art and culture of India, hand-carved elephants, horses, camels, pillars, horsemen, dancers, and musicians. A visit to the temple brings a sense of calmness.
